WOW! Just came back from a raw milk seminar hosted by Charlotte Smith in St. Paul with guest speacker, Tim Wightman. I am overwhelmed with the fact filled information he talked about concerning: soil, forage, pasture and testing needed to find the right hay for our cows to have the best production.
Tim is a founding member of the Farm-to-Consumer Foundation, which we are a member of as well. The vision of Farm-to-Consumer Foundation is to support farmers engaged in sustainable farm stewardship and promoting consumer access to raw milk and local food.
Thats us! (FTCF) is a nonprofit Educational Charitable Organization created to expand public awareness about sustainably farmed food.
I was encouraged and learned about how to distinguish between nutritional and bad hay, pasture and what it should look like for our cows to make the healthiest milk. Also, how soil plays a huge role in pasture and hay today. He discussed herd health and how to make sure each cow is receiving nutrient dense food and forage for their needs.
Tim is friendly and down to earth. He has been in and around agriculture all his life. Tim consults worldwide with dairy farmers on raw milk safety and direct marketing. We were so lucky to sit and listen under him while he shared much of his knowledge with some of the raw milk producers in Oregon.
